Thursday 16th February 2012...The Living Dessert

We stayed inside most of the day... well I did he was so hot out side again...I was quite comfy inside with the 2 a/c going....We had a big storm after lunch but didn't take long to clear up and be very hot again.

We decided to go and see the sculptures at "The Living Dessert" I wanted to leave it till late in the afternoon as they are best viewed then plus the sun set is amazing up there...

The Living Desert Reserve is nestled amongst the Barrier Ranges and is located 9km from the City of Broken Hill. It is a unique 2400ha reserve which commenced in 1992. The scenery and views from the reserve are breathtaking 360 degrees of views which you can see for miles and miles....
The Living Desert is a Sculpture Site. A successful sculpture symposium was held on this majestic hilltop (within the centre of the reserve) in 1993 by artists from around the world, under the direction of organiser and artist Lawrence Beck. 12 sandstone sculptures highlight the skyline, all with a story to tell.
Below are the sculptures and the description of their meanings:

This is the one I was interested in, because as the sun sets if you get it at the right time the sun shines through the hole.... so we waited around until the sun started to set...and you will see  further below we got it !!

While we sat around waiting for the sun to set... it was very peaceful, sitting right at the top of this hill surrounded by nothing but barron land...

Amusing ourselves !!!!!

A shot of John through the eye of the sculpture...

Finally the sun was low enough to get the perfect shot !!

We hung around waiting for a good sunset ... but storms were setting in all around us..so I decided it wouldn't be that good a sunset and we headed back home as we planned to go to the local club for dinner.
