Monday 30 January 2012 "On The Road Again"

"On the road again
We just can't wait to get on the road again
seeing places that we've never seen before
We just can't wait to get on the road again"

Well up bright and early...we are finally leaving today...John has been chomping at the bit for weeks to get on the road....Sharon called around with coffee's in hand after dropping Jenna off at school..to say goodbye again...so another teary moment...

We finally got on the road about 11am...travelled the motorways and the traffic was good..John was pleased with how the truck was handling its self ..

We stopped for lunch at Mooney Mooney and then carried on...we don't normally travel more than 2 half hours to 3 hours at the most but John wanted to get to Walladabah which is about an hour outside  Tamworth...it's a free camp ...it's called The First Fleet Memorial Gardens...after stopping for a coffee at Braxton earlier we finally arrived at the camp around 6pm ...

The garden is a memorial for the descendants of those who sailed on the First Fleet . It commemorates the First Fleet of eleven ships which brought to Australia the first European settlers under the command of Captain Arthur Philip. It is a companion piece to one erected at Portsmouth Harbour, England.

The First Fleet sailed from England on 13 May 1787, carrying more than 1,500 people, and arrived at Botany Bay eight months later, on 18 January 1778. Governor Arthur Phillip rejected Botany Bay choosing instead Port Jackson, to the north, as the sight for the new colony; they arrived on 26 January 1788. The Fleet consisted of two naval escorts, HMS Supply and the flagship HMS Sirius, carrying the Governor; six convict transports, the Alexander, Charlotte, Friendship, Lady Penrhyn, Prince of Wales and the Scarborough; and three storeships the Borrowdale, Fishburn and Golden Grove.
Many of the decendants use this area for family reunions and quiet reflection. Ray Collins one of the decendants had a vision and he built the memorial.

I cooked dinner had a shower and was in bed by 8.30pm after a very good day of driving...
