Winds still here...so I took advantage of it and did my washing.. Winds so strong took me all my time to peg it out...
We went into town and I checked for my mail I got one parcel still 2 to come.

We then went to the information centre and found out all about The Nullarbor Links golf course... which is in Western Australia's Golden Outback. This unique 18-hole par 72 golf course spans 1,365 klms from Kalgoorlie in Western Australia to Ceduna in South Australia, depending which way you are travelling. A single hole can be played in each participating town or roadhouse along the Eyre Highway, each featuring a green, (hummm) a tee and a fairway of rugged outback natural terrain and they certainly were not joking about that....

The Nullarbor Links has taken almost 5 years to get off the ground. Like many grand plans, it was formed between friends, Alf Caputo and Bob Bongiorno, over a bottle of red wine at the Balladonia Roadhouse. It was completed in 2009.

John booked his card which cost $70...John has to play the first hole at the Ceduna Golf Club and also the last hole .. And each time he gets his card stamped to confirm he's been there and played the holes...

OMG the golf course was an eye opener..!No Grass !! The fairways were just dirt like everywhere else in these places...and the green was like a crushed black metal of some sort...the terrain plus the wind..really made it difficult for John.. But we enjoyed it ... It was fun...and we got some exercise as unlike when John plays in Sydney he always has a buggy... Here he had to carry his own golf bag... He said I should be the caddy and carry it... But he didn't get away with that ....

Just an old shed turned into a club

Birds don't like the golf balls

After golf we stocked up on groceries for the next week as .. We won't be eating at nice restaurants on the Nullarbor .

Sunday 26th February 2012

Woke to a cloudy day and very windy 46 klm winds sure cooled it down..later in the morning it rained.. So we didn't do too much today..

We decided to go out to the hotel for dinner again as the food was so good.. We had roast dinner tonight..beautiful...

Caught a nice sun set when we got back to the house

Saturday 25th February 2012 Ceduna

Was a bad night for sleeping last night but we managed to get a few hours sleep... woke early because it was starting to get hot again.. and we had breakfast and were on our way by 9am.. heading to Ceduna today.

We stopped off in the town of Wudenna which is situated in the middle of the Eyre Peninsula, its a rural community and is best known as "Granite Country" and cereal cropping and it's home to the recently built Granite Sculpture "The Australian Farmer" Standing at 8 mtrs (26ft) in height, the work was hand carved from 70 tonnes of local granite.

The sculpture is a representation of a farmer. The figure is a basic human form, the top represents the sun, and the body is carved grain crops. Sheep are placed at the foot of the statue,to represent the sheep farmers in the district as well as creating feet for the figure. It took 17 years to produce from initial proposal to the final unveiling in 2009, and two years for the artist, Marijan Bekic ( with the assistance of his son, David) to carve.

Give you some idea of how BIG it is !

Amazing all that history for a tiny little town like Wudenna.

We have 200 kms to travel today ... and it's all in one straight line...no corners to turn... nothing... these roads to Perth just go straight across... The scenery  doesn't change much...it just stretches for kms as far as the eye can see...

We were watching the temperature gauge go up and up in the truck and by lunch time it was 40 degrees and hot winds... by 3pm it had reached 42 degrees...the a/c was struggling to cool the trailer down...as any would in this heat... we decided to go for a drive as the a/c in the truck is magic and nice and cold..

We are staying in a caravan park, near the airport at Ceduna just 1 km out of the town centre which our friends from Port Augusta advised us they would have no trouble fitting in big rigs...which they didn't... the place leaves much to be desired though...not a blade of grass to be seen any where again.. just dust !!!

Anyway we drove into the town centre and was amazed at what we saw... the place just looks so new..everything is so clean and tidy...new building everywhere... and low and behold WATER !!!..

We had no idea we were so close to the coast... the water looked beautiful...we stopped in at the local hotel opposite the beach and John had a nice cold beer... then we went for a drive around the area...

Heading tp Pinky Point...It is believed that Thevenard's Pinky Point, on the Ceduna side of the Thevenard Jetty, may have been named after a small marsupial called a "pinky", the Australian Bilby, seen in large numbers before the area was developed.

A large look out platform has been constructed on the Point providing a great view over the wharf and to the islands beyond.

Also at Pinky Point is the Lighthouse Memorial to those lost at sea, a ceremony is held each year at the Memorial to remember those lost at sea.

The Port of Thevenard is the major port on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula, SA. Major cargoes handled through the port include gypsum, grain and salt exports. A lot of cargo is handled through this port.

After our little site seeing tour we headed back to the house to try and get cool...

On the way we passed an interesting garden with a display of weather vanes..

Later we went out to dinner at the local Restaurant over looking Murat Bay, had the most amazing dinner Seafood Marinara and we finished off with Sticky Date Pudding it's was huge and soooo yummy...

We then went to walk it off on the Thevenard Jetty which is 375 metres long !! but I wasn't too sure...only got a little way and had to come back :( wish I could handle this stuff... but it was all wooden boards.. and that puts me off big time !!!

I was going to stay and take the sun set but the battery run out on my camera Dam !!

Friday 24th February 2012 Wudeena

Because it was so hot yesterday we didn't pack up till this morning, we got up early before it reached today's heat wave again of 40 degrees...

Baz and Annie came over to say goodbye we exchanged business cards and we took photos...

On our way to Ceduna today... its over 400 kms so we wont be doing it all in one day...

We stopped off at Kimba to take a picture of the sign which informs us we are standing in the middle of Australia...(another milestone up our sleeve)

The roads are great to travel on and the views are amazing you can see for miles has I have said before.. I took some pictures to give you some idea what its like...

We met up with more wide loads

Pulled up at the side of the road at a rest area, we are all on our own here, so I hope it's going to be safe tonight...

We have had the generator on all afternoon since we arrived.

Monday 20th February to Thursday 23rd February 2012 Port Augusta

We are at HOT !! Port Augusta and we are here for 5 days... Its nice to settle down for a little while...When we arrived we followed another big rig in and we thought our truck was big ... check this out....

Baz and Annie  have been on the road for just over 2 years, and we had a lot in common and lots to chat about ..spent most of the evening's having happy hour with them.

Not much to report from here, except the heat.... it's been so hot... in the 40's every day so we haven't done much at all... spent a lot of time inside in the a/c. Not much to see in Port Augusta anyway...

We went out to dinner on Wednesday night to "Barnacle Bills" great seafood place...

Thursday night the local club opens for dinner and we went out with Baz and Annie for a meal before we leave tomorrow..very simple meal but very nice ...and more to the point very cheap...

Friday 17th February to Sunday 19th February 2012

Friday 17th February

Had a relaxing day and packed up ready to hit the road tomorrow...

Saturday 18th February

Spent most of the day travelling once we set off, stopping on the way for morning coffee and lunch...

Not much to report on the road just wide open spaces...

Pulled into a Bush Camp at Peterborough for the night...very hot day... we waited till the sun went down and sat out side and enjoyed the silence... and the cool breeze...so peaceful.

Sunday 19th February

This is what we woke up to this morning !!!!!!!!!! Beautiful sun rise...

We headed out to Port Augusta today.. only 130 kms so a nice easy drive... I commented to John that the terrain had now changed and we saw a lot more trees etc... and lots of ploughed fields that stretched for miles... must have taken them days to plough it... and large homesteads scattered around...

I made a comment ...."well I guess we don't have to worry about emu's jumping in front of us anymore"...and no sooner had I said it we turned a corner on this windy road as we went through the Flinders Ranges and on the side of the road was mummy emu and 3 babies so close to us again... we were so afraid she would run the wrong way again in panic and run in front of us, I didnt have time to take a photo of the babies... awwwww they were just so cute !!!!!

So the motto is " Never think you have seen the last of the emu you never know when they will pop up out of no where"

Flinders Ranges

Arrived early afternoon at Port Augusta, we have decided to stay here for 5 days.

Thursday 16th February 2012...The Living Dessert

We stayed inside most of the day... well I did he was so hot out side again...I was quite comfy inside with the 2 a/c going....We had a big storm after lunch but didn't take long to clear up and be very hot again.

We decided to go and see the sculptures at "The Living Dessert" I wanted to leave it till late in the afternoon as they are best viewed then plus the sun set is amazing up there...

The Living Desert Reserve is nestled amongst the Barrier Ranges and is located 9km from the City of Broken Hill. It is a unique 2400ha reserve which commenced in 1992. The scenery and views from the reserve are breathtaking 360 degrees of views which you can see for miles and miles....
The Living Desert is a Sculpture Site. A successful sculpture symposium was held on this majestic hilltop (within the centre of the reserve) in 1993 by artists from around the world, under the direction of organiser and artist Lawrence Beck. 12 sandstone sculptures highlight the skyline, all with a story to tell.
Below are the sculptures and the description of their meanings:

This is the one I was interested in, because as the sun sets if you get it at the right time the sun shines through the hole.... so we waited around until the sun started to set...and you will see  further below we got it !!

While we sat around waiting for the sun to set... it was very peaceful, sitting right at the top of this hill surrounded by nothing but barron land...

Amusing ourselves !!!!!

A shot of John through the eye of the sculpture...

Finally the sun was low enough to get the perfect shot !!

We hung around waiting for a good sunset ... but storms were setting in all around us..so I decided it wouldn't be that good a sunset and we headed back home as we planned to go to the local club for dinner.
