10th - 14th May 2012 Exmouth

This is our final stop over before we meet up with Michael & Lois, we are spending 7 days here...

The Shire of Exmouth is an area of 6,261 square kms situated on the tip of the North West Cape .....it is 1,270 kms north of Perth. The town, which is quite remote was originally constructed in 1964 as a support town for the United States Naval Communications Station Harold E Holt. It has a resident population of 2,400, but the numbers swell to approximately 6,000 with the influx of many tourists that travel north for the beautiful climate and conditions that it's famous for
Exmouth is one of the few areas in Australia that can boast the Range to Reef experience. The Cape Range National Park which has some spectacular gorges is an area of 50,581 hectares and its main area is focused on the west coast of the Cape which provides a large variety of camp sites on the coastal fringe of the Park .
The Ningaloo Marine Park which is part of the Cape Range National Park has 260 kms of coastline. At the closest point the reef is within 100 metres of the shore.
The reef itself comprises 200 species of hard corals and 50 species of soft corals and is a diver's and snorkeller's paradise. The beaches of the west coast have the most pristine blue, aqua to turquoise waters with white surge breaking over the reef and pure white sandy beach. Turquoise Bay is supposed to be awesome and we intend to drive around to the west coast to check it out...

Sunday 13th May Turquoise Bay

Decided to travel the 70 kms to Turquoise Bay today... packed up the truck with lunch etc...and it was well worth it... just beautiful....

The beach was lovely white sand, and the water was crystal clear...could not wait to get into it, as it was very hot...

Amazing we were just ankle deep and we had dart fish swimming around us and snapper...humans didn't bother them at all...

14th May 2012

We had a drive around the area today and called in at the new development area where they have made man made channels and building homes on the water front...

We called in at the new Novatel Resort to check it out... nice place.. and out the back they had their own private beach...
