Friday 24th May - 8th June 2012.... Broome

BROOME....

Western Australia occupies around one-third of Australia's total landmass, that's an area of 2.5 million square kms.

The sheer size of Western Australia beckons visitors back time and again,
From fiery red ochre cliffs contrasting with bright turquoise waters to pearl diving sagas and dinosaur footprints - the history of Broome is as captivating as the scenery.

Where the sky meets the land, the desert meets the sea, where white sands, red rocks and  blue waters come together.... on a peninsula not more than 15km long, rests the town of Broome. Often referred to as the southern gateway to the Kimberley.

Everyone talks about coming to Broome and we are finally here...for 2 weeks to relax and explore..

Actually Broome itself hasnt got a lot in it... quaint little shops in the main shopping centre...on the outskirts they have built a new shopping complex with some major stores in there...

For most of the sightseeing you have to travel to..if you have a four drive wheel vehicle..you are laughing as a lot of the activities you would need one...even all the beaches allow you to drive on them.

So the first attraction was Cable Beach...we drove the bikes down and parked on the sand...

The beach is littered with rock pools where octopus and other creatures wait for the tide to take them back to the deep.
Vehicles are still permitted to drive onto the northern side of Cable Beach, and a blind eye is turned to those who choose to sunbath au naturelle in that part of the beach.

The Beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, as it is washed clean everyday by the massive tides that flow into Broome. You can find beautiful shells and many a piece of flotsam and jetsam washed ashore. Colours and shapes are amazing...

The Broome Camel Safaris provide a camel ride at sunset on the beach... something we decided we didn't need to do..

The construction surrounding Cable Beach is remarkably humble and it is very far from being commercialised. A restaurant and cafe with ocean views sits on the grass overlooking beach. The restaurant has a live web cam overlooking the beach and I was able to call up Sharon and Jenna and Mychele  and actually wave to them live through the cam...Jenna was very excited that she could see her Nanna  wave to her....made you feel just that bit closer to home again..

Each evening as the sunsets over the Indian Ocean across Cable Beach, the esplanade is lined with visitors from all parts of the world, with cameras ready to catch the perfect Broome sunset....

We visited the beach twice each time having a picnic and watching the beautiful sunset...

First night .....

 Second night ......
