Broome - Gantheauma Point

The Gantheaume Point landscape is a spectacular blend of red cliffs and stark blue water.

It is home to some of the most diverse evidence of dinosaur fauna discovered in Australia. The Broome sandstone of the area around Gantheaume Point contains abundant fossil dinosaur prints, as well as plant fossils that are thought to be from the early part of the Cretaceous period - over 130 million years old.

The site contains evidence of a dinosaur trackway and is considered to be one of the longest in the world. Footprints include theropod tracks (one set belonging to Megalosauropus broomensis), two different sauropods, a small ornithopod and tracks that were possibly made by a stegosaur. To date, nine different footprints have been found.
The reef area of Gantheaume Point is fragile and the footprints can only be viewed when the tide is very low.
We arrived late in the afternoon just after low tide... I was amazed how many people were there climbing around the rocks looking for the footprints...You had to be a mountain goat to get around the rocks.. they were huge and slippery as you got further towards the sea level.. the colours of the rocks were awesome....

We managed to find a set of foot prints... where we quickly had to take pictures then head  back out as the tide comes in very quickly in these parts...

I spotted a guy in full Indian headgear, I quickly zoomed in on him standing on the rock face above ..he looked awesome !! against the background...

We stopped half way up and had a picnic dinner on the rocks.. it was amazing...watching the beautiful sunset once again... we didn't leave till it was dark and we had to use our torch to climb back up the rocks back to the truck...

On the point is a beacon light and we could hear an osprey calling for her mummy to come and feed her..she got back just before dark.. and it was a fair way up so hard to focus with the camera once it started to get dark..

Anastasia's Pool.
This iconic man-made rock pool is located a short distance from Gantheaume Point. The pool was built by a former lighthouse keeper for his wife, Anastasia. The pool was designed to provide relief for Anastasia, who was crippled from arthritis. The pool fills during the high tide, and is refreshed every day.

After our picnic we watched the awesome sunset once again...

When we were leaving I got a great shot of the moon coming over the rocks...
